Biography & Artist's Statements
The appeal and strength of Jody's work comes from her bold use of color and the inclusion of fabrics, metals, nails, cement, modeling paste, and other textural materials, all designed to stimulate and entertain the viewer's imagination.
Over the years, she has developed a unique working style that fuses solid landscape structure with bold abstract design ... at the same time allowing each piece to evolve as a uniquely different and powerful artistic expression.
After the texture has been laid down on primed hard-board, an acrylic under-painting is applied. Values and structure are gently coaxed out of the emerging form with brushes and palette knives. She is relentless in her search for variety and originality. The final color application that has become the trademark of her work is a combination of many layers of glazed oil paint, gold or copper leaf, iridescent and interference colors. No two pieces are alike. Yet like twins similarities do exist.
Each finished piece speaks a range of emotions to the collector, from a tranquil escape to lighthearted playfulness, which satisfies Jody's goal to add a dimension of joy to the lives her work touches.
Jody's art education started as a child with her parents, (who were both accomplished painters), and formalized at the California Institute of the Arts. Her works are in corporate and private collections across the US and Europe, and can be seen in National and local shows, as well as by appointment at her studio.
