Biography & Artist's Statements

Nancee Jean McClure earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Art Education and taught middle school art briefly before accepting a position as an educational consultant with the Illinois State Gifted Program. In addition to travel and public speaking, this job involved writing and illustrating educational material.

This exposure led to a job offer from an educational publisher. For the next several years, Nancee Jean wrote and illustrated several art and crafts books for children and worked as art director of a busy publishing company.

Eventually, however, the desire to step away from a consuming, deadline-driven career demanded a change. Nancee Jean left the publishing company, moved to Colorado, and started her own development house, providing creative and prepress services to publishers. Although this job also had demands, it allowed Nancee Jean time to return to her first love, painting.

Always an active outdoor enthusiast, it was only natural that the subject matter that appealed to her was the natural beauty of her surroundings. The unsurpassed beauty of western Colorado provides the artist with unlimited opportunities to paint powerful landscapes and awe-inspiring wildlife.

Painting animals of any kind appeals to Nancee Jean. She recently illustrated three children's books titled The Lazy Alligator, Trunks and Tails, and We Are Hippopotamus by award-winning author Jon Archembault.
