Biography & Artist's Statements

I had my first art class, Life Drawing, in college at Texas A&M where I graduated with a psychology degree in 1970.  There I studied drawing in pencil, charcoal, and pastel.

During the summer of 1975 I hustled my way from inn to inn drawing pencil portraits of hikers for food and drink while climbing Alpine peaks in Austria and Bavaria.

Through the 70's and 80's I supported my climbing habit working as a sign painter and portrait photographer.

I was introduced to oil painting in the early 90's and studied under Beverly Wainright in Olympia, Washington.

Since 1994 I have designed, built, painted and lighted scenery for the theatre and enjoyed many outings with long time friend and fellow mountaineer/painter Wolfgang Lehnhardt.

I have taken workshops, and learned from David Leffel, Dan Loge, Daniel Edmondson, Sherrie McGraw and Jacqueline Kamin.

I am a member of the Western Colorado Center for the Arts, The Brush and Pallet Club, The Artist Guild and Oil Painters of America.
